17. October 2017
Reading time: 2 minutes
Today we would like to look back at the intense time we spent at the London Design Fair 2017. We have been back for several days now, inspired by the atmosphere at this unique event in the vibrantly creative metropolis of London. We were privileged to be part of it for a few days. True to our slogan “Never stop inventing” we presented ideas for the future of the kitchen – and that in the Old Truman Brewery in the hip and happening district of Shoreditch, lined with bars, pubs, food trucks, small art galleries and shops. During the event of several days design enthusiasts and artists from around the world bustled about on the old factory site.
An audience that inspires
We found the audience at the London Design Fair unique. We have not encountered such a colorful mix of designers, architects, creatives, artists and design aficionados from all over the world at any fair. We were thrilled from the beginning and fascinated by the visitors’ interest and passion, which came through clearly in the many talks.
A bit like Science Fiction
Many of them came to our stand to swap ideas on cooking in the future and to try out product innovations such as the scratch-resistant cooking surface CERAN® MiradurTM. The main attraction was the FUSICS Table – a fully functional kitchen block made of glass-ceramic which we have developed and built and which illustrates our vision of the kitchen of the future. We have equipped this table with all sorts of possible and impossible features, such as oversize glass-ceramic with integrated touch-display on which favorite recipes, their ingredients and video tutorials can be called up with a fingertip. One visitor put it in a nutshell when she said; “Wow, this is Minority Report style.” And it did indeed feel like we had landed in the future. In addition to food preparation, the kitchen block provided a cooking area with eight induction cooking zones and a dining area at which to sit and enjoy a freshly cooked meal. A complete merging of kitchen and dining area. Our interpretation of the future of cooking, which we have realized today as a prototype thanks to the versatile properties of glass-ceramic.
Ideas that shape the future
Yet the FUSICS Table at our stand was topped by the impressive efforts of the international designers who participated in the CERAN® Design Awards 2017 and submitted their ideas for the kitchen of the future to us. The Top 30 conceptual designs were presented to the public for the first time at the London Design Fair and the winning concepts were awarded. For us it was a great honor that some of the finalists personally came by to admire their work in the gallery. We were pleased to meet them.
At the end of the four days it was not easy to part. We are still feeling the vibes of the London Design Fair and this special city. Now it is up to us to spread the experience of Cooking FUSICS and even to bring the designers’ intriguing ideas to life with suitable partners. Who knows, perhaps living-room walls in the future will actually transform into intelligent kitchenettes, and ingredient racks will light the way to the perfect dish. For everyone who does not want to wait until then, we have collected the highlights from London in an event film. Enjoy the Show!
